Clay M. Dodd, MAI, joined
the firm in September of 1992 and became a principal in 2001. Mr. Dodd holds a
Bachelor of Science degree from St. Cloud State
University; with a major in Industrial Technology (Building Construction
emphasis), and a minor in Management & Finance (Commercial Real Estate
emphasis). His appraisal
and consulting experience includes a wide range of industrial, commercial
and investment properties.
Among his
specialties include the appraisal of large agri-business processing
plants. Past assignments include wheat flour mills (hard, soft and
durum), oat mills, dry corn mills, specialty mills, barley malt plants,
soybean crushing plant, formula feed mills, seed plants and all types of
grain elevators (country, rail terminal, river and port). Other
agri-business experience includes food processing plants, cereal plants,
dry pasta plants, vegetable processing plants and meat packing plants.
As part of his ongoing practice, Mr. Dodd continually stays abreast of
current trends and developments throughout the agri-business industry.
Several past
assignments have involved whole-plant appraisals, whereby the
value of the entire operating plant is estimated and then allocated
between the real property and the fixed machinery & equipment. In
addition to his concentration in the agri-business and food sectors, Mr.
Dodd has appraised a number of other specialized manufacturing plants as
well as general industrial facilities.
Mr.
Dodd has completed assignments for litigation support,
financing, acquisition/disposal, estate planning, financial reporting and
purchase price allocation. He has served as an expert witness in numerous legal proceedings.
Review assignments have been completed for mortgage underwriting,
litigation support and federally related acquisitions.
Mr. Dodd currently
serves on the City of Bloomington's Local Board of Appeal and
Equalization, and previously served as a board member and President of
the Northstar Chapter of the Appraisal Institute. He also serves
nationally on the Appraisal Institute's Valuation for Financial
Reporting (VFR) project team. Mr. Dodd was a contributing author
to the Appraising Industrial Properties text book, published by
the Appraisal Institute (2005), writing on the subject of grain
elevators.
